With the
release of 'ORANGE MOON' the up-and-coming SOUNDRISE QUARTET
presents a promising debut double CD that is both an artistic
statement and a sonic calling card. Eight original
compositions, two by each band member, emphasise the quartet's
concept that everyone composes and then arranges and interprets
the pieces together, with each composer contributing their own
artistic signature to the band's multifaceted repertoire. Thus,
there are eight very different compositions to discover on
'ORANGE MOON' – musical sound stories full of surprises,
chamber music-like joy of playing and sensitivity for fine
details. Improvisation plays an important role here,
underlining all four musicians' love of spontaneous creation in
the moment and conjuring up a live character on the double CD,
which was further enhanced by the decision to record in a
shared space. A debut that makes you sit up and take notice –
poetic, energetic and uncompromisingly independent.
