School project

"Open your ears - you can fly!"

The SOUNDRISE QUARTET’s school project “Open your ears – you can fly” combines musical practice, creative experimentation and the concert experience in a collaborative project with school students. The aim is to give young people an open, curious approach to music and to actively involve them in the musical process using their own instruments.

Improvisation is at the heart of the project. In workshops lasting several days, participants discover various forms of spontaneous musical expression, experiment with melody, rhythm, harmony and sound, and develop their own musical ideas. The Soundrise Quartet brings its extensive experience of improvisation across a wide range of styles to the project, enabling students to explore diverse soundscapes and be introduced to various concepts of improvisation. At the same time, great importance is placed on meeting each pupil at their own musical level, so that everyone can contribute according to their abilities.

Furthermore, participants are introduced to the quartet’s original compositions. The musical motifs and structures of these pieces are developed collaboratively and form the basis for improvisations linked to the pieces and the students’ own musical contributions.

A key feature of the format is the combination of workshop and concert: at the concluding public concert, performed by the tutors, the results of the workshop are presented in concert form, and the students actively participate in selected Soundrise compositions. In this way, they experience first-hand how collaborative creative processes lead to a vibrant concert experience. If requested, an additional concert can be organised for pupils from the participating schools.

The project fosters creativity, musical curiosity and collaborative music-making, inviting participants to explore new worlds of sound with their instruments and give free rein to their musical imagination, under the motto ‘Open your ears – you can fly!’. Furthermore, this form of collaborative music-making has a strong social dimension and encourages students to listen attentively to one another, to give each other space, and to experience personal development within the community.   READ MORE
